Influence of seizures and seizure medications on course of AD dementia Lead Investigator: John Morris Institution : Washington University E-Mail : morrisj@abraxas.wustl.edu Proposal ID : 405 Proposal Description: The major hypotheses to be tested are: 1) Alzheimer disease is characterized by an increased risk for late-life seizures compared to those who are CN 2) the increased risk for seizures is stage (CDR) dependent and 3) the presence of seizures and/or use of anti-epileptic drugs is associated with greater rates of cognitive decline and death. The Aims are to: 1) compare the frequency of a history of seizure disorders in persons with AD versus CN persons 2) evaluate the frequency of seizures by CDR stage and 3) evaluate the effects (if any) of use of anti-seizure medications with cognitive course and with survival.
